Connell Family, I knew your dad from working with him at Bluebonnet Motors. We originally worked together as sales personnel, and then when I decided to re-engage as a manger of my small business servicing them with paint touch-up at the used car dealership, I continued to interact with Val there. My brother, Neal, remembers Val as well, as he was an employee of the paint business who actually handled the Bluebonnet account. He was equally saddened to learn of his passing. Val was a very sweet man. He was very even tempered, and unlike some in the car business, was a man of his word. It was important to him to make the customer happy. I remember meeting Shirley while working with him in sales, and he always spoke so highly of their relationship. He was tremendously proud of his kids. It's been a long time since I last saw him, but I will not forget him. As a fellow Christian, I know that I will see him again someday in heaven. Take comfort in knowing that he is now with his King. To All the family members of the "Connell" family, 
This is his only sister and I must say that Val Did it "HIS WAY" no doubt! The past five years that he and I had bonded met a lot to me. He was a kind and loving brother. He had a heart bigger than Texas!!! If one were in need or of emotionaly support he was jolly on the spot! He loved his family and friends dearly. Val is going to missed by many. ALS the disease that took his life was horrible. It is a disease that will give one a life sentence in ones own body. The last six months were just horrible for him...as well as for the ones that were involved in his care. My prayer to you, my friends! If you are reading this you might want to stop and think about giving to the ALS Foundation for further research, because this is a disease that can strike anyone at anytime. And the funding does help the cause. 
Well...just a little note to let y'all know that I DO LOVE MY FAMILY and I will miss my older brother........... 
one more thing before I go. Guys we are becoming a smaller group now and I would like for us to hold on to each other with God's Prayers.

Thanks for the memories, altho I only knew Val for a few short years, he was a sweet guy and enjoyed being around him. My prayers are with his family.

I grew up with Val, going back to the 2nd grade and through Marine boot camp. 
We had a lot of good times. Val was a likeable guy. And everybody liked Val. Through all those years, I never knew anyone that didn't get along with Val. And, I'm sure that list continued to grow over the years. He'll be missed by many. Best wishes to his family

My sincere condolences to the family of Val Connell, whom I remember as a warm, genuine and friendly person.

I first met Val July 20th 1959 the day we joined the Marines. Val, Bill Dunavan and myself, Ray Phipps, left for boot camp that day and our lives were changed forever. I have a lot of good memories of those days with Val. Those were rough times for us kids but we survived boot camp and remained friends. When we would meet over the years, we would laugh about those times,Val was a good Marine and will be missed SEMPER FI JARHEAD

Val was my very first crush, in the second grade at Madison Elementary School. At the time I even wrote a one paragraph story about it called "The Two Love Birds." I was very jealous of Marilyn Palmer, because when the teacher cast us all in a play, she got to be the Queen, while Val got to be the King. I was only Snow White. I'm sure the angels all love him.
