

Victor Lionel Flores-Gutierrez, age 38, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. Victor was passionate about many things. First and foremost, he was passionate about his family and friends; From comforting his little sister in the middle of the night, to helping his father, mother, and sister find the best healthcare and the best doctors available to them. He always prepared and ensured that his parents, sister, and himself had a current list of medications and medical backgrounds, which, doctors always appreciated and thanked him for. His passion for helping people spilled out into all aspects of his life. When he was at the University of Texas at San Antonio, Victor was very prominent in the political groups on campus. His roles included: the President of College Democrats of America at UTSA, Secretary of Membership for the Texas Federation of College Democrats of America, National Vice Chair, LGBTQ+ Caucus of College Democrats of America, and a Voter Election Judge for Texas, one of the Comal County Election Judges for Garden Ridge, TX, and the President of Lambda Alliance at UTSA. Victor used his platforms to advocate for equality for all, marriage for all, Women’s Rights, Immigrants’ Rights, and free healthcare for all. One of his most memorable acts was to conduct mock same sex weddings on campus live on camera for several different news stations. Victor did this as a form of peaceful protest against the idea that marriage could only be between a man and a woman. While making his mark in the political world, Victor also managed to earn a Bachelors degree in Spanish and a Minor in Sociology. Victor was extremely proud of being Mexican American with Spanish and Native American ancestry. While at UTSA, Victor was a member of the Sigma Alpha Pi Spanish Honor Society and a member of the Honors Alliance. After graduating with honors from the University of Texas at San Antonio, Victor worked at his father’s company, F.E. Care, Inc, as a Case Worker. While working at F.E. Care, Inc, Victor earned his Teaching Certificate for K-12. After a time, Victor left F.E. Care, Inc and began working as a Substitute Teacher to gain experience. He substituted at several different schools until, he was offered and accepted a job offer from Seguin ISD to teach 8th grade Spanish. Victor loved his students and enjoyed teaching them the Spanish Language. Victor loved everything that was Mexican and Spanish culture. He loved the language, the food, the close family ties prevalent in Mexican culture, etc. Victor also had a deep love of Italian food. He loved traveling with family and, two of his favorite trips were to Spain. But, what Victor loved most was the music. He played several different instruments including, the trumpet, the French horn, the flute, etc. Though he was not professionally trained, Victor was an amazing singer and loved to sing, mostly in Spanish. He was a brilliant poet and writer in both English and Spanish. Victor accomplished many things in his short time on this earth. He could have accomplished so much more with his life but, he died too soon. Victor was preceded in death by, his father, Lionel Rios Flores Jr, both sets of grandparents, and several loved ones on both sides. Victor is survived by his mother, Melba G. Flores; his sister, Melba C. Flores; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trevor Project.
