Victoria G. Del Angel (née Victoria Galvan Menchaca) was born on July 28, 1934, in Candela, Coahuila, Mexico. She was the second of six children born to Jose Maria Galvan Reyes and Teofila Menchaca Ortegon. Victoria grew up alongside her siblings—Maria de la Luz “Luz”, Luis, Maria de Jesus “Tuta”, Teofila “Fila”, and Jose Maria “Joe”—in Candela before the family relocated to Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.
As a young woman, Victoria, along with her sister Luz, emigrated to the United States. It was during this time that Victoria’s path crossed with the Del Angel family through her place of employment. Her future in-laws, Delfino Del Angel and Marcelina Moreno de Del Angel, quickly fell in love with her and decided she would be perfect for their son Jesus “Chuy” Del Angel Moreno. To everyone’s delight, after making their mutual acquaintance and after a short courtship, the two fell deeply in love, and their union blossomed into a beautiful marriage that began in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico.
Together, Jesus and Victoria raised five children: Alma Patricia, Jesus, Hector, Arturo, and Jose Luis. Their home was filled with love, warmth, and the guiding presence of Victoria, who always made her family her top priority. In 1975, the family made a life-changing move to San Antonio, Texas, joining their maternal and paternal extended family and embracing new opportunities.
Victoria was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a diligent worker, serving in various roles throughout her life, including memorable years at Levi’s Strauss and San Antonio Shoes. She retired in her early 70s, dedicating her golden years to her growing family.
Her life was a living testament to the power of love, faith, and selflessness. After losing her husband, Jesus, in 1992, Victoria became the heart of her family, pouring herself into the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of twelve grandchildren—Andrea, Jesus III, Arturo Jr., Claudia, Tony, Hector Jr., Paloma, Alyssa, Leticia, Cristina, Lorena, and Jose Luis II—and nineteen great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
Victoria’s life was not without heartache. In 2012, she experienced the profound loss of her beloved son Hector. We take comfort in knowing that she is now joyfully reunited in heaven with her husband Jesus and her son Hector, in the presence of her Savior.
Victoria was a matriarch in the truest sense, a beacon of love who cherished her family above all else. She had an uncanny ability to make each member of her family feel uniquely loved and valued. Her faith in Jesus Christ was her foundation, and it is this same faith that gives her family hope and assurance today.
We thank God for the precious gift of Victoria’s life and the faith she exemplified to all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends as a reminder of God’s love, grace, and the hope of eternal life.
We look forward with great anticipation to the day we are reunited with her in the presence of our Lord. Until then, we will honor her legacy by loving one another as she so beautifully loved us.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesus; son, Hector; sisters, Luz and Fila; and brother, Luis. Victoria is survived by her 4 remaining children; Alma Patricia; Jesus (Patricia); daughter-in-law, Josephina (Hector’s widow); Arturo (Lisa); Jose Luis (Belinda); 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; sister Tuta; and brother, Joe.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.”
