Virginia Jeanette Norwood

Virginia Jeanette Norwood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the age of 91. She was born April 17th, 1931, in Red Level, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Preston Norwood. She is survived by her loving daughters, Connie Stokely (Barry) and Jeanette DeFriese (David). Virginia is also survived by her granddaughters, Jennifer Stokely and Jessika Stokely, her grandsons, Colby DeFriese (Sharee) and Damon DeFriese (Hannah), and her two great grandchildren, Cassie and Callen DeFriese.

Virginia was loved instantly by everyone she met, none more so than her husband who she married after a courtship of only two weeks and lived in holy matrimony for 54 years until Claude’s passing in 2003. She was a constant light in the lives of all who knew her, always more than happy to share a conversation, a smile, and a laugh with anyone who needed it. She was a devout Christian who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and could often be found with her well worn bible in her hands, re-reading her favorite verses and scribbling notes in the margins while humming a hymn. She loved her family more than words can possibly express, and was the best mother, grandmother, and great grandmother anyone could have possibly hoped to have. The joy she had for life will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

There will be a Celebration of Life service on Friday, March 24th, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel in Sunset Funeral Home located at 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio TX. Per Virginia’s request, please refrain from wearing dark funeral attire and opt instead to present in bright festive celebratory colors.
