Virginia M. Vogel

Virginia Mae Brite Vogel was born on May 26, 1927 in the home she lived in for 89 years to Samuel Brite and Maude Palmer Brite. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 1, 2023.She was married to her husband Sonny Vogel in 1954 and they lived in the family home to care for her parents.

Virginia Mae was a devout catholic all her life. She was one of the first CCD teachers at St. Leo the Great parish for many years. She was involved in numerous church activities at St Leos throughout her life including the Ladies of Charity, St Martha’s guild, the Alter Society and the Church Choir. She was also one of the first lay Eucharistic Ministers.

She was a proud member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. Virginia was a devoted teacher and taught in the Harlandale school district for 26 years. After retirement she spent time traveling with her husband and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and sister-in-law who always made everyone she met feel as if they had known her for years. She was vivacious and fun all of her 96 years!

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Sonny Vogel, parents, Sam and Maude Brite, sisters and brothers in law, Mary Lois (Everett), Margie (Henry) and Maude Ellen (Chuck).

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Randy and Carol, her grandchildren Samantha, Justin (Katie) and Sabrina, her great-grandchildren Madeline, Jake, Luke and Cooper, her brother-in-law Jerry Vogel, sister-in-law Alice Marie Smith as well as many dear nieces and nephews.

We wish to thank the nurses and staff of The Village at Incarnate Word Angelique Memory Care for the years of gentle caring they gave to Virginia. We also wish to thank Melissa from Christus Hospice Care for all her loving attention and guidance.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Porter Loring Mortuary.
