

Colonel (Ret) William Henry Foy, 89, passed away on July 20, 2025, at the Army Residence Center in San Antonio, TX with family present. He was born in New Braunfels on April 1, 1936, to Henry William Foy and Leonie Ann Tausch. He was a graduate of New Braunfels High School, the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (now Texas A&M) in College Station, the Command & General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, KS and the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, PA. He served in the United States Army for thirty years as both an Infantry and an Ordnance officer with numerous state-side and overseas assignments including Germany, Korea, Vietnam and the Sudan. His distinguished military career included roles as Company and Battalion Commander, along with senior staff level assignments. He retired from active duty as the Chief of Staff, 13th Support Command at Fort Hood. Following his military career, William served for many more years as a manager at Sallie Mae. As an Officer, he was known for his determination, integrity and commitment to excellence. As a husband and Father, he was loving, supportive and engaged. His hobbies included tinkering with his cars (including a prize-winning restoration of a ’60’s era Porsche), watching his beloved Texas Aggie and Dallas Cowboy football teams and NASCAR, and keeping an immaculate yard. He loved his pets, and he loved attending his son’s sporting events. He also was active in his church and sang in the choir. He is preceded by his wife of 63 years, Gertrude Becker Foy, his parents, and his sister Phyllis Foy Soares of San Antonio. He is survived by his son Bryan and his wife Betty of New Braunfels, TX, and grandchildren William (and wife Sarah), Christopher, daughter Sarah, and great-grandson Noah. He is also survived by his son Stephen and wife Elizabeth of New London, NH, and grandchildren Caroline, Douglas and Robert.
Memorial services will be held at Porter Loring North on Thursday 14 August beginning with a short visitation at 9:00 AM, a service at 9:30 AM followed by interment with full military honors, including caisson, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
