

Billy Quinn went home to be with his Lord on October 25, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Dora Quinn; son Scottie Quinn; brother Ronnie Peavy; aunt Gladys Raymond; sister-in-law Dorothy Saathoff and husband Billy Ray; brother-in-law Gene Brown and wife Barbara. He was preceded in death by his mother Agnes Peavy and stepfather, Thomas B. Peavy. Billy was born in Oak Park, Illinois but was raised in San Antonio, TX where he was a football star at Jefferson High School. He led Jefferson to the state football championship in 1949 and as a senior running back and team captain in 1950 scored a then-city record 19 touchdowns. In the 1951 East - West All Star game, Billy was voted the most outstanding player and won the admiration of legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Known as "Billy the Kid" during his three-year football career at the University of Texas at Austin, Billy rushed for 1, 366 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. In 1952 he led the Texas Longhorns to the Southwest Conference title and a 16-0 win over Tennessee in the Cotton Bowl. He graduated from UT in 1955 with a degree in education. Billy's career was in the banking industry where he served as a loan officer, vice president and compliance officer until his retirement from Nations Bank now Bank of America. As a loan officer he helped many people achieve their most cherished dreams. When not working, Billy's passions included travel with wife Dora, fishing and attending UT football home games. He was also a member of Concordia Lutheran Church for over 20 years. Billy's family and friends loved him for his kindness, sense of humor, integrity and generosity. His warm, friendly, gentle personality, his laid back approach to life and his beautiful soul blessed all who knew him. Billy's family appreciates the caring support extended by friends and neighbors and expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff of Baptist Memorial Hospital, Dr. George Richmond, Dr. Drew Walsh, Dr. David Gordon and Pastor David Ebs for the extraordinary loving kindness and dedication they showed toward Billy.
