

William M Shaw Jr (Martin), age 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. B/Gen (ret) Shaw was born 13 April 1934 in Asheville, N.C. and attended N.C. State College, graduating in 1955 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He then proceeded to serve his country as a navigator, civil engineer, and logistician in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 until Sept, 1983 where he was awarded a Purple Heart in 1960 as well as achieving General Officer rank in 1981. Following his USAF service, Gen Shaw worked for Northrup Grumman where he was instrumental in the development/production of the B-2 bomber as well as foreign military sales of F-5s/F-15s/F-15Es and F/A-18s to Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Switzerland. He retired from Northrop in 1998 after 15 more years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, William M Shaw Sr and Martha Johnson Shaw, as well as his older daughter, Katharine Shaw Nevius. Gen Shaw is survived by his wife, Alfrieda Ring Shaw; son, William (Bill) Martin Shaw III; and younger daughter, Carol Elizabeth Pratt; as well as numerous grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
Interment with full military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (specialops.org).
