William Robert Smith Jr., known affectionately as William to his friends and family, embarked on his final journey on April 2, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on February 11, 1955, in Carthage, Texas, William's life was and still is a testament to the power of positivity that all things are possible through Christ Jesus, the strength of family bonds, and the enduring spirit of community service.
From his early days, William was a beacon of hope and a pillar of strength, kindness, and servant’s heart. He grew up in the loving arms of his parents, the late William Robert Smith Sr. and Louise Clarkston. His formative years in Carthage shaped the man he would become – a man of faith, integrity, and boundless love. William's journey through life was shared with his beloved wife, Linda Louise Smith of forty-two years of marriage, and together they nurtured a family that was the very definition of unity and warmth, grace, and being humble, including their children Kathryn House, Kristi Wagner, April Smith, and Westin Smith.
William's academic pursuits led him to study Business at a local college where he earned associate degree, where his keen intellect and dedication earned him multiple accolades and certifications from silver, bronze, golden eagle. His professional life was a diverse tapestry of experiences, having contributed his talents to Otis Engineering, Frito Lay, and finally, as a data analyst at USAA. William's work ethic and commitment to excellence were unmatched, and his colleagues often spoke of him as not just a coworker, but as a mentor, a friend, and a man of God.
But William's true legacy lies in the lives he touched outside the office. A faithful Sunday school teacher, he imparted wisdom and values to countless young minds, shaping the future with every lesson. His love for the outdoors was clear in his meticulous yard work, a reflection of his belief in the beauty of nature and the importance of stewardship. William's heart, however, was fullest when he was with his family, whether coaching his children's sports teams or volunteering with local charities. He believed in giving back, in serving others, and in the power of family values being the foundation.
His interests were as varied as they were noble, but nothing brought William more joy than attending his grandchildren's celebration of birth and activities. He was their biggest fan, cheering them on with a pride that was both palpable and infectious. William's presence at these events was more than just support; it was a lesson in love, commitment, and the importance of family.
Describing William is to speak of a man who was faith-filled, loving, and selfless. His life was a living example that we can all aspire to be better, do more, and love unconditionally. William's unwavering faith guided him through life's challenges and triumphs, and his love was a warm embrace that knew no bounds. His selflessness was the cornerstone of his existence, always placing the needs of others before his own.
In every aspect of his life, William was a motivational force. He inspired those around him to strive for greatness, to face adversity with courage, and to find joy in every moment. His legacy is not one of sorrow but of celebration—a celebration of a life well-lived, of dreams fulfilled, and of a journey completed with grace and dignity.
