A decorated fighter pilot in WWII, serving in the South Pacific, Corrigadore, he followed with an assignment at Steeple Morden, England. After retiring from Lackland AFB in 1961, his post military career was as a corporate pilot for Holt Machinery Co. and Osborn Heirs Corp.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Cummings.
He is survived by his brother, Robert L. Cummings; son, William J. Cummings, III and wife Tonya.

Interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for immediate family only.
