Xavier Luis Gonzalez passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at the age of 21. Xavier was born on January 20, 2000- a loving son to Mario and Myriam (Rodriguez) Gonzalez in San Antonio, TX. Xavier attended Stone Oak Elementary, Bush Middle School, graduated from Reagan High School and worked with forex business trading.
Xavi is survived by his parents, Mario and Myriam, his sister, Isabella, his stepbrother, Kobe, his stepsister, Kiana, and his stepmother, Tracy. He also blessed the lives of his maternal grandparents, Luis and Myriam Rodriguez, and his paternal grandparents, Xavier and Loretta Gonzalez. He was loved by an extensive, close-knit, supportive family and will be dearly missed by every aunt, uncle, cousin, and person who was lucky enough to feel the warmth of his embrace.
As a child, Xavier’s loving and kind spirit was visible to all. We are reminded of his cheerfulness not only from the large collection of photos which attempt to capture the brightness of his smile, but the glowing memories which we so lovingly reflect on. He had a passion for soccer and outdoors, with many of these shining moments detailing long days of play and laughter. His athleticism was as strong as his competitiveness, and his ability to inspire his teammates and work hard to be part of something greater than himself was a strength he applied to many areas of his life.
As described by family and friends, Xavi motivated and inspired the people he met through selfless acts of empathy, an uncanny drive to expand his knowledge, and the manifestation of self-love which kept him working to become the best leader he could be for the sake of those he led. He was a firm believer that friends are the family that you make, and he showed that love by providing them with support and compassion.
His legacy includes an extensive list of long and short-term goals, detailed in a composition book which he filled cover-to-cover with plans for life, love, and success; plans which were written not only for himself but the people around him. They were ambitious and kind, encompassing his goals to walk by faith, gain a better relationship with God, run his own business, become an expert trader, impact a billion lives, and most importantly- to quote, “make his parents cry because of how proud they are of him.”
Seven months ago, Xavi survived a near-death experience, and chose to use his second chance for the better. He was described as the “prodigal son” who chose to come back home to the Lord after understanding that God’s grace had saved him. Xavi was human, he made mistakes, but it’s not the mistakes which define our lives- it’s how we handle them. We are so deeply proud and blessed to have witnessed the radical spiritual transformation he undertook with so much grace. In only seven months, he showed God and his family who he was truly meant to be. He made the active decision to, as he wrote, “do good, be good, [and] live good”.
Presently, his warm heart and friendly disposition served him well as a greeter and member of a small group at North Rock Church. He also lead a bible study every Friday night, where his diligence in faith and passion for Christ met, blessing our hearts with pages and pages of notes- a testament to the strength and diligence of his faith.
While there were goals he had yet to reach, he achieved the most important ones. He put in the work to preach God’s word, build his team’s faith, bring people closer to God, read more books, and as he so simply wrote, “love”. We remember his life for its triumphs and lessons, and the love he continues to inspire within us all. Thank you.
