Doris June Groves was born in Fisk, Missouri to Harve Smith and Dora Gillihan Smith on September 1, 1938. She moved to California and was raised by her devoted sister Ica Mae Clay and brother-in-law Henry Clay. From an early age, her lively spirit, compassionate and giving nature endeared her to all those around her.
Doris was a devoted wife to Edward Groves and mother to Elizabeth Groves. She loved her time as mother-in-law to Ed’s sons Tim Groves and Eddie Groves, his wife, Donna and granddaughters Stacey Groves Young and Torrey Groves. Stacey is mother to Doris’s great- grandchildren Saxon and Skylar Young. Doris was the heart of her family and loved cooking and hosting for holidays and celebrations.
Doris enjoyed a large circle of great friends and extended family that she showered with love and support as they did for her. Doris and Ed built a home filled with love, laughter and cherished memories.
Doris wanted to be a teacher and work with children. Her dream came true in 1973 when she earned her Lifetime Teaching Credential and went to work for the Colton Joint Unified School District teaching elementary students. She later earned her Administrative Credential and served as an Elementary School Principal for the remainder of her 35-year career in education. She loved working with students and teachers and took great pride in their accomplishments.
In celebrating Doris June Grove’s life, we honor a remarkable individual who touched the hearts of all who knew her. Her legacy of love, resilience, and compassion will forever live on in the lives she touched.
To honor her memory, a graveside service for Doris will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Mt. View Mortuary & Cemetery, 570 East Highland Ave, San Bernardino, CA 92404.
