Born on December 28, 1930, in Bay City, Michigan, Jean was the eldest of three siblings. Her life epitomized the values of love, devotion, and selflessness. Her enduring legacy comprises boundless love, unwavering perseverance, and an unyielding commitment to her family and community.
Having relocated to California in her late high school years, Jean married and raised three children: Roxanne, Raymond, and Bradley. In the late 1950s, she settled in San Bernardino and, as a single mother, dedicated herself to nurturing her children while working for the San Bernardino City Unified School District.
With over three decades of service to the District, Jean retired in 1987. In her retirement, she wholeheartedly volunteered at local libraries, imparting literacy and English language skills to adult learners. Some of her proudest moments were witnessing her students conquer obstacles and strive for self-improvement.
Jean's affection extended to her six grandchildren. She often took opportunities to visit them throughout the state and took several road trips. During summers, she could often be found playing wiffle ball in the front yard with them. Over the years, Jean would welcome 10 great grandchildren.
Jean Duncan's life served as a testament to the force of love, selflessness, and dedication to both family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and the belief that a single individual can profoundly affect the lives of others. Her memory will forever reside in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless individuals she influenced through her work.
May she rest in peace, and may her light forever illuminate the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
