In Loving Memory of Kent Michael Schofield

March 12, 1938 – October 17, 2025

With immense love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Kent Michael Schofield, who left this world peacefully on October 17, 2025, at the age of 87. Kent lived a life rich with laughter, learning, and love — and his humor, kindness, and intellect touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Born on March 12, 1938, Kent had an extraordinary ability to find joy in every situation. His sharp wit and unforgettable sense of humor could fill any room with laughter, and his storytelling was nothing short of legendary. Whether in a classroom, at a family gathering, or simply over coffee, Kent had a gift for turning ordinary moments into cherished memories.

A lifelong educator, Kent began teaching at California State University, San Bernardino in 1966, where he served as a Professor for 41 years. He inspired generations of students to think deeply, laugh often, and never stop learning. Even after retirement, Kent continued his pursuit of knowledge — taking online courses on every subject that piqued his curiosity. He was, to his core, a lifelong learner and a believer that education never truly ends.

Kent was also a man of profound compassion and principle, passionately advocating for human rights and the belief that all people deserve to be treated with dignity, love, and respect. He approached the world with an open heart and an unwavering sense of fairness.

Kent’s 33-year friendship with Bill W., co-founder of AA, reflected his steadfast commitment to sobriety and personal integrity. He approached recovery with humility and gratitude, leading by quiet example and offering encouragement to others along the same path. His discipline, honesty, and perseverance in this journey were a source of strength and respect among all who knew him.

Kent had a lifelong love for animals, and his pets were truly part of his family. He found great comfort and companionship in their presence — and they, in turn, adored his gentle nature and boundless affection. His home was always filled with laughter, warmth, and wagging tails, a reflection of the kindness and love that defined him.

A devoted football fan and proud Rams supporter, Kent approached every season with the same optimism he brought to life — hopeful, passionate, and ready to cheer no matter the outcome.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Lynda Schofield, who was his partner, confidant, and greatest joy. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering love.

Kent is also survived by his children: Kent and Linda Schofield; Jeff Schofield; Michael and Shelly O’Brien; and Christina O’Brien and Robert Goodwin. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Geoff and Shyla Schofield; Ed Schofield and Sveta Smirnova; Ivy and Ryan Binkley; Corin O’Brien; and Ashton Abghari. Each of them carries a part of Kent’s humor, curiosity, and warmth in their hearts.

Above all, Kent will be remembered as a remarkable man — one who brought light and laughter wherever he went, who taught through example as much as through words, and who believed that kindness was life’s greatest achievement. His humor will continue to echo in our laughter, his wisdom in our conversations, and his love in our lives.

He will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
