It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Norman E. Edelen, on August 2, 2024. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew him.
Norman E. Edelen was born on May 1, 1932, in Indianapolis, IN to Arletta B. Moore & James Wesley Edelen. After his service in the Unites States Air Force, he moved to Los Angeles, CA where he became a Police Officer with the Los Angeles Police Department. Norman’s first true love, however, was writing. Writing professionally since 1966, he wrote educational films, black history films, and various tv shows throughout his career. In 2009, he finally wrote and published – what he would consider to be his most cherished work - “After A While You Wonder”, the final episode in a trilogy, following “Tuesday After Next”, and “It Don’t Matter: Amor Regge Senza Legge”.
He is survived by his wife, Hillis L. Edelen, his daughter’s Nona Edelen, Tamara LaRose-Dorsey, and Kubie Edelen-Davis; his son’s Norman E. Edelen, Jr. “Peppy”, Ted LaRose, Tyrone LaRose, and Josh Edelen; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Thank you to the medical doctors and staff at Loma Linda Veterans Hospital for their exceptional care, and devotion to our father during the past few months of his life and a special thanks to the nurses and staff, who took such good care of him while in hospice the last few weeks of his life.
He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His memory will forever be cherished, and his presence deeply missed. Rest in peace, dear father. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
“I love you when you’re good, I love you when you’re bad, I love you when you’re happy, I love you when you’re sad, I love you all the time!” ~Dad
