Dad was always interested in learning about new places and had no boundaries. He taught me to have no boundaries.  That’s why I spent much of my adult life living in and traveling to different countries around the world.  Some of my best memories of him were when I got to show Dad around places I had discovered when he and my mother visited us in the Philippines and Switzerland. Dad sure knew how to enjoy a view, no matter where it was, including at home in Escondido. 

My father was well known as a long distance runner in the Philippines when he was in his late teens and early 20s.  He was very proud of this and of course, we are very proud of him as well.  But I believe we should also remember the example he set by being a kind and generous person. When we were growing up, we always had periods of time when various people stayed with us for maybe a month to a few years.  Some of these people really became part of our family.  This continued at Dad and Mom’s house after I left home after college.   He and mom never hesitated to help others of all different backgrounds.  I had later learned they sometimes significantly impacted people’s lives.  The help was not only providing a place to live, but sometimes everyday transportation, teaching them how to drive, or even assisting in gaining citizenship to this country he loved.

Dad's subtle sense of humor and how he teased the ones he loved.  He and I were out in the yard he pointed out how my orchid tree was finally flowering.  I was happy, but said, “oh, why did it take so many years”?  He answered, “well, you took a long time to bloom”.  

Dad loved his children and his grandchildren.  Dad's belief in us seemed to out weight our belief in ourselves.  In his heart, we could do anything.  Dad enjoyed in the company of animals, friends and family, loved seeing the beauty of this world, and took pleasure in making one’s way through the journey of life.  Thank you, Dad. We'll miss you. 

I met Ninong Artemio and his wife at a friend’s party in 1984. I was looking for a room to rent for my daughter and I. I was introduced to them. Flor said that their daughter was leaving for college and wanted her room rented. I offered and they accepted.  
At that time, I didn’t have a car so Art  offered to take me to the bus station in the morning then pick me up in the afternoon during the week. He did this for about a year until I was finally able to buy  my own car. 
Artemio and his family were so kind to us during our stay with them that I felt we were part of their family. We had a lot of fond memories with them. I will always remember his greatness as a husband and a father. He did not hesitate to extend his generosity and help to those in need.
When I met my husband in 1986, we asked Artemio  and his wife to be our marriage sponsors.
Pam and I love you, Ninong Art. You will forever be in our hearts.
Now it’s time for you to Rest In Peace with our Almighty Father in heaven, Amen.
