Born in Detroit on February 24, 1932 to Paul and Catherine Sapienza (née Chimente), who had come to America in 1926 on the SS Roma, Bernadette moved to San Diego in 1946.
She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950 as Class President, SD State College with a BS in Business Administration in 1957.
After many years working at San Diego mainstays, McKesson, Bank of San Diego, and TWA, Bernadette returned to school for her teaching credential.
She was a business owner, a real estate broker, a loving wife, and doting mother, the job she said she was made for.
Bernadette was predeceased by Bill, her husband of 35 years, in 1999 and, earlier, her brother Anthony in 1997.
She had a beaming and welcoming smile, loved cooking and feeding everyone, and treasured the finer things in life, starting with family and friends. She is survived by her three sons, Bill, Robert and Bryan, two daughters-in-law Donna and Cherie, and her five grandchildren, Anthony, Cameron, Ethan, Sarah, and Sophia.
A funeral service will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on El Cajon Blvd at El Cerrito Dr. on April 22 at 9am-1030am with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee or earmarked for the Paul Mirabile Center at St. Vincent de Paul Village in San Diego, CA.
