At the age of 65, Brad Eric Normandin peacefully passed after a short illness in San Diego, California on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. Brad, and his twin brother Bryan, were born July 19, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa to parents Markalene and Duane Normandin. He was the eldest of the two by 5 minutes which always gave Brad bragging rights as the wisest and more mature twin.
Brad is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bryan. He is survived by his husband and the love of his life, Danny; siblings Pamela K. (Guy), Scott (Leigh), and Laurie (Mike) Throckmorton; nephews Dustin (Lindsay), and Nick (Boone); nieces Anna and Leigh Normandin; and great-nieces Stella and Harlow Normandin.
He spent most of his youth in Urbandale, Iowa where he graduated from Urbandale High School in 1974. Brad graduated from the University of Arizona Tucson with a Pharmacy degree in 1982 and in 2006 earned his master’s degree in Leadership of Health Care Organizations from the University of California San Diego.
Brad began his successful career as a pharmacist with the VA Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. In 1986 he moved to San Diego where he continued his career, eventually becoming a Director of Pharmacy at both the Scripps and Sharp Health Care systems. He took great satisfaction in problem solving and mentoring staff.
Brad and Danny met 26 years ago while playing darts at a local San Diego Bar in 1995. They fell deeply in love and were married the moment the opportunity arose in 2008.
Brad could have been a professional chef. He loved cooking in the kitchen and grilling in the yard. It was no secret that Brad had at least one of every conceivable cooking gadget under the sun. He truly loved to entertain his friends and family with his unique culinary skills and delicious cuisine.
In his younger days Brad ran in marathons, participated in iron man competitions, swam, rode bikes, and jogged. Later in life he traded some of those activities in for gentler exercises. Brad and Danny loved their walks along the beach, walking their dogs, and taking pilates classes. Brad enjoyed taking many (very, very, many) pilates classes.
Brad loved spending time by the ocean. He and Danny treasured their yearly trip to Kauai and their many trips to Puerto Vallarta. He enjoyed travelling to the wine country with friends, and especially delighted in their trip to Thailand and their most recent trip to Europe.
Brad was devoted to his friends and enjoyed entertaining in their home, and the backyard/garden that Brad was so proud of. He hosted many fun, and to the chagrin of neighbors’, often loud and rowdy parties in that garden.
