

San Diego, CA — Crisanta Sta Rita Diawatan, 85, died Friday, April 10, 2015 at the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, CA. She leaves her son, Rommel S. Diawatan and his wife Angelina A. Diawatan, her daughter Cynthia D. Nucup and her husband Freddie Nucup, her son, Roberto S. Diawatan and his wife Cherlita Del Puerto Diawatan, her son Ronnie Diawatan, her son Roderick Diawatan ; her grandchildren in San Diego, Aarom, Aamel & Rommel Anthony Diawatan, her grandchildren in Philippines, Andre, Ella and Tonton Nucup and their spouses and many great grandchildren. Born and raised in San Pablo City, Philippines, one of the 12 kids Ricardo Sta Rita and and Oliva Hicban Sta Rita. She was a 33 year resident of San Diego, CA. In her early years, Mrs. Crisanta Diawatan known by her nickname “Crising” would help manage the family business of selling newspapers, magazines and other educational books, The store was called Sta Rita Educational Store, which was during that time in the 1950s and 1960s was the only store in San Pablo City that sold newspapers and magazines. She finished her High School education in 1949. She met her husband, Rosalio A. Diawatan in high school and they were married in 1952 in San Pablo City. She gave birth to five children and together with her husband was able to help all of them finished college. She was once a beautician too and had a shop called “Liwayway Beauty Shoppe” in the 1960s and 1970s. Crising was a very business oriented woman who also opened a Sweepstake agency in the San Pablo City. Her proud moment as a sweepstake agent was when her agency sold the third prize ticket back in the 1970s. Mrs. Diawatan was also a very avid fan of movie and music. She loved to watch movies of her favorite movie stars like Susan Roces, Rita Gomez, Gloria Romero, Fernando Poe, Jr and Juancho Gutierrez. She also had a passion for music, always listening to music of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Doris Day and Ray Connif Singers. She had once a collection of all Ray Connif’s Albums. While growing up, she enjoyed collecting pictures of family and friends. She had collection of pictures of her with many celebrities including with young Susan Roces. Throughout the years, Crising had collected more than 10,000 pictures. She especially cherished the pictures of her children. She made a point to put together separate photo albums of all her 5 children from their baby pictures up to their adulthood. She had continued this hobby up to her 80th year. After living in the Philippines for over 52 years, she immigrated in the USA with her husband. She worked in Kyocera for over 10 years till she retired when she started undergoing dialysis in 1992. A Visitation is set for Friday, April 17, 2015, from 4 to 8 at El Camino Memorial. A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at El Camino Memorial with a private burial at El Camino Memorial Park.
