David Wing Hawkins, age 78 of San Diego, California, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020 after complications from open heart surgery. He was the husband of Patricia Jean (nee Lindemann) Hawkins. David was born in Newton, Massachusetts, on May 8, 1942 to the late Frederick A. Hawkins and Faith E. (nee Wing) Hawkins. After graduating from Buckingham Browne & Nichols in Cambridge, Mass, he received his Bachelor’s Degree at American University in Washington, D.C . He returns to the Lord having lived a meaningful and faithful life according to His plan. David’s faith in the Lord was admirable. His relationship with our Creator was deep and steadfast. He was gentle, dutiful, faithful, loving, caring and patient. He saw the good in everyone, was quick to forgive and approached life with humility, loyalty and love. David was the kind of man who made friends everywhere he went. He loved to chat with other people, often returning home from wherever he went with a good story and a new friend. His sociable nature made him an ideal account executive for Stanley Hardware in New England and the Midwest and later as an independent sales representative. He met his future wife, Patricia, in 1969 and they were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Belleville, Illinois on November 14th, 1970. They made their home in Chesterfield, Missouri where they raised their two daughters. He continued to work in sales until 2017, when he retired to spend more time with his family on the West Coast. David loved being outdoors, going on hikes and walks wherever he went. He read extensively and spent his time following politics and studying history, even tracing his family tree back to their service in the American Civil War. Over the years he enjoyed time on his boat at Mark Twain Lake, watching baseball, volunteering at church, King of Kings Lutheran and later Incarnation Lutheran, attending Men’s Ministry and keeping up with his grandkids. He loved a good beer, a great meal and a spirited conversation. But most of all, he loved his family. In addition to his wife, Patricia, he is survived by his beloved daughters Christine Millay (Gavin) of San Diego, California and Rebecca Reid (John) of San Rafael, California, and his treasured grandchildren, Caroline, Luke, Morgan, Ellie and Lydia. Also his brother, Gary Hawkins (Terry) of Sherborn, Massachusetts, brother-in-law Eric Lindemann (Sheryl) of Riverside, California, brother-in-law Mike Schultz (the late Eloise) of Casper, Wyoming, nephews and nieces and his extended Wing relatives and friends. Before his surgery, he made sure to speak with each member of his family—a blessing and small consolation for which we’re all grateful. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Fred and Faith Hawkins and Deborah Hawkins of Newton, Massachusetts, his in-laws Henry and Bertha Lindemann and beloved family dogs, Skipper, Cole and Ramsey. A private outdoor service officiated by Reverend Dr Luther Symons will take place on October 23rd, 2020 at El Camino Memorial - Sorrento Valley in San Diego, California, and a family visitation will be held on October 21st, 2020. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dave’s memory can be made to TunneltoTowers Foundation and Willow Grove Elementary School Foundation. I remember David as a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor. I enjoyed his company always! Whether over a beer or a great cup of coffee, catching up on family issues or talking sports, David was always easy to talk to.

David and I didn’t know each other as well as we may have liked; however, after reading his obituary I sense his faith in family, community and religious convictions was exemplary.

David, you will be truly missed.

Dave was always a caring and gentle, friendly man. He always greeted us and chatted with us at King of Kings church. Prayers for his family for peace and comfort. He was a good man that shared his love for Jesus by just being himself.

Dear Pat, I am so sincerely sorry and sad to hear of Dave’s passing. He was truly a wonderful man that was dearly loved at King of Kings. I remember all the wonderful times we had together at Kononia. He was a fabulous leader. I have missed you at church. Your daughter, Becky, was the acolyte at my daughter, Laura’s, wedding back in 1989.
I would love to hear from you. You are missed.
Love you, Ann Johnson

Dear Pat and Family,

I am so sorry for your loss of Dave's presence.......and so grateful that we know he is with our Lord. Many of his friends from your King of Kings days have gone before him and, I believe, joyfully welcomed him home.

I still can picture Dave and Jack kibitzing when they ushered together - and at our many "small group" events so that, if it was up to them, everything ran as smoothly as possible. Seems like your family and ours were always into whatever was going on at church. What a great place to share relationships!

My love and prayers are with you.

Dave will always be remembered for his smile, friendliness and Christian faith. He was a well known member at King of Kings in Chesterfield, MO.
There was not a Sunday morninng that went by, where Dave was not friendly to everyone.
He was a Christian gentleman to the end. He now lives in eternity with his precious Savior.
