2.21.1955 – 5.9.2018
Ocean Beach lost a devoted fan on 5.9.2018 when Doug died peacefully at home.
Doug grew up in Wellesley, MA and graduated from Barnstable (MA) High in 1973. He caught the audio bug at a young age and loved building speakers, repairing electronics and bringing music to life. He attended Worcester Polytech and finished his four-year degree at San Francisco State, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Radio & TV in 1979.
He was always a great people person, having an uncanny knack for fun and sales, which drew him to his lifelong involvement in the Halloween and costume industry. After a long sales stint in California, he and his then-wife, Leo, relocated to Long Island, NY where he worked for Rubies Costumes. A few years later, he returned to his oasis of OB, continuing as a Rubies sales rep until his retirement in 2016.
He was instrumental in supporting, contributing and participating in the Ocean Beach Geriatric Surf Club, the OB Parade and the Saratoga Block Watch.
Doug, always the life of the party, was best known for his keen sense of humor, creative ideas and fun-loving nature. He loved romping on Dog Beach with his beloved Golden Retriever Brady and cheering on his beleaguered Chargers.
He’ll be sorely missed by so many, especially his two sisters, Carol Morton (Detroit), Nancy Seefeld (Spokane), his brother-in-law, Dave Robinson, nephews Gunnar Seefeld and Ryan Robinson, nieces Kenley Seefeld and Meghan Robinson, and his grand-niece, Olivia Robinson.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating, in Doug’s memory, to the San Diego Humane Society or a non-profit of your choice.
