Eva D. Lacarra de Llanes, age 91, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, March 5, 2018 in San Diego, CA. She is survived by three children - Richard, Therese, and MeleLani Carmen Celia, two grandchildren -Lynette and Tony and two great-grandchildren - Ysabella and Yliana.
Eva was a native San Diegan but spent 10 of her formative years in Mexico City, Mexico. Due to her bicultural upbringing, she considered herself American and Mexican all of her life. She worked as a switchboard operator at CBM to improve her English prior to her marriage to Moises Llanes in 1950. They raised their family in a close knit neighborhood in the State College area. Eva was a consummate mother and homemaker and took pride in raising her family.
She served as secretary of a support group for 15 years after her children grew up. She loved getting together with her lifelong girlfriends to celebrate their birthdays. Her interests included family, gardening, dancing, music, the pandas at the zoo, especially Hua Mei, making holiday gifts for her neighbors and swimming class.
She was a devout Catholic and went to mass up to the day she died. She had an unwavering faith in God and found strength in her religion which helped guide her through difficult times. Eva had a special place in her heart since childhood for St. Thérèse de Lisieux, “The Little Flower”. Like St. Thérèse, Eva always thought of others more than herself. She was always willing to lend an ear and would take hours looking for “just the right card” to send to her friends to brighten their day.
A Rosary will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018, 7:00 PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4540 El Cerrito Dr., San Diego CA 92115.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Eva on April 7, 2018, 10:00 AM at St. Didacus Catholic Church, 4772 Felton Street, San Diego, CA 92116. Internment at Holy Cross Cemetery will follow mass.
