In January 1946, while working at the soda fountain in the drugstore across the street from her home on National Avenue, Frances met John Arbaugh, a World War II veteran who had recently returned from serving in the Pacific. The two were married on December 8, 1946.
John joined the San Diego Fire Department in 1948, and together they built a wonderful life and raised three children. They shared a love of ocean fishing, camping at Tony’s Camp in Baja California, traveling, and hosting family gatherings and dinners. Frances and John enjoyed a long and loving marriage of 61 years.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, her three brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy and Patricia, and her son, John; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and granddog, Annie.
Frances will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her warm hospitality, and the many cherished memories she created with those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
