The family soon relocated to Elma, NY, where Geoffrey and his siblings grew up. He graduated from Iroquois Central High School in 1980 and then attended Erie Community College, where he earned his Associate’s Degree, and also served as a volunteer firefighter in the Elma Volunteer Fire Company.
Geoffrey enlisted in the United States Navy in April 1988 as an aircraft electrician and spent his career stationed primarily at North Island Naval Base in San Diego. He was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War, where he fought bravely alongside Navy Seals in multiple ground combat situations, and later completed six tours of sea duty in the Western Pacific. After retiring, he continued to fulfill a commitment to serve, working as a contractor for General Atomics and deploying abroad for multiple months each year. He was between deployments at the time of his death.
Geoffrey was an avid outdoorsman and created so many fond memories with friends and family while camping and off-roading in his Jeep in the Borrego Desert, outside of Borrego Springs, CA. He was a skilled mechanic and electrician, well-known for his love of working on cars and projects around his home. He loved watching movies like Highlander and Lord of the Rings, listening to the music of Pink Floyd, Metallica, and Queen, and watching a starry night sky. And he could never turn down a bowl of Panang curry with a Thai iced tea.
Geoffrey is preceded in death by his parents. He is the beloved father of five children: Leah Huk (husband Shawn Griffith), Katie Huk, Amanda Huk, Daniel Ladd (wife Jaiden Hamilton), and Rachel Huk. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Jaidyn Huk and Sawyer Griffith, as well as his siblings, Michael Huk Jr. and Monica Leoffler (née Huk).
