

Gretchen Hansen December 15, 1917 – October 4, 2014 Gretchen Hansen, 96, was born on December 15, 1917 in Bedford, IA. She was the only child of Thomas Dillon Hosman and Rosa Ulrich Hosman. She graduated from Bedford High School and Boyles Business College in Omaha, NE. She married Lester W. Hansen in 1943 in Omaha, NE and they moved to Key West, Florida where Lester was stationed in the Navy. She worked for the Public Works Department of the Navy. At the end of WWII, they moved briefly to Omaha, NE, Jefferson, SD and Woodward, IA before settling in Des Moines, IA where they resided for 43 years. Gretchen worked as a supervisor for Fireman’s Fund American Insurance Co., and for Capital Personnel before retiring. They moved to San Diego, CA in 1993 to live during their retirement years. Gretchen was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach, CA where she was active in Prayers and Squares making many quilts. Her major passions were her Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and watching and supporting many sports teams. She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, San Diego State Aztecs, San Diego Padres and San Diego Chargers. She is survived by a son; Dr. David W. Hansen and his wife, Linda, of Laguna Hills, CA; a daughter, Joy Hansen of San Diego; a grandson, John Hansen and wife Erika, of West Des Moines, IA; a granddaughter, Stephanie Spann and husband Brandon of Spring Valley, CA; and Great Grandchildren, Morgan Ashley Hansen, Van Joseph Hansen, and Harper Emery Hansen of West Des Moines, and William David Spann and Nolan Thomas Spann of Spring Valley, CA; a sister-in-law, Ethel Hansen of Lemon Grove, CA; a sister-in-law Lavern Hansen of Omaha, NE; one niece, Karen Hansen of San Diego and one nephew, Michael Hansen and wife Linda, of Lakeside, CA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester; Brother-in-laws, Donald A. Hansen and Herman O. Hansen, and sister-in-law, Hildur E. Hansen.
