

Petty Officer James "Jimmy" McLaughlin was born May 19, 1988 to parents Roderick and Kathleen McLaughlin. He was born and raised in Northern Virginia along with his brothers: Thomas, Christian and Patrick. He is the second of four boys.
Jimmy grew up loving water. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor degree in Geography in December 2010 and upon graduation from Tech, Jimmy pursued his love of travel by backpacking throughout Australia and New Zealand. During this time he worked as a dive instructor and earned his PADI master diver certification. After completing his backpacking, Jimmy returned home and this is where he met the love of his life, Meghan Coddington McLaughlin.
Jimmy and Meghan married on January 2, 2014.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in April 10, 2013. Following completion of Recruit Training Command he was assigned to Center for Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Diving June 8, 2014. In June 27, 2014 he reported to Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center Panama City, FL. Upon graduation he reported to Undersea Rescue Command November 12, 2014.
HM3 Mclaughlin’s personal decorations include National Defense Medal, Sharpshooter 9MM Pistol, Navy Good Conduct Medal (1x), and Navy Battle “E”.
Jimmy loved to travel and loved adventure and diving. Jimmy loved life.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife Meghan, his parents Roderick and Kathleen, his brothers Thomas, Christian and Patrick.
