Jean St. Martin Hunt

Jeanie grew up in Houma, Lousiana and graduated from high school at age 17. She attended Louisiana State University before following her life-long dream to become a nurse. She graduated nursing school at Our Lady of the Lake, Baton Rouge, LA at the “Top of the Class” for scholastic achievement, devoted and conscientious care of the sick, and exuding strong moral character. She spent her first years of nursing in obstetrics, while continuing her education and becoming a Nurse Anesthetist in 1954.

Jeanie married Howell T. Hunt in September 1954, just 3 months after meeting on a blind date. Howell was impressed to find that Jeanie made “a little more” than he did as a Civil Engineer. During the early years of their marriage, they moved many times with Addie, their boxer; before settling down to raise their daughters.

She left nursing full-time to devote her life to her children but, never stopped serving others from being school nurse in the 1960’s to many years as wedding coordinator at St. James Catholic Church, Solana Beach.

Jeanie enjoyed a wonderful life raising her girls in southern California and London, England. She was an amazing cook, was known for her artistic flair and style, and invested in many life-long friendships. She enjoyed world travel, antiquing, playing bridge, gardening, and all animals - excluding snakes. Her greatest pleasure were the moments spent with her 3 grandchildren: Charlie & Russell Reed and Preston Sell.

Jeanie was a devout Catholic. She spent her final 30 years in San Diego County, near the Reed family, and enjoyed sharing life together with them. Everyone who knew Jeanie Hunt, loved her and will remember her as a kind, gentle, and generous person. Jeanie is survived by her three daughters: Katie Hunt (Del Mar, CA), Margee Sell (Boise, ID), and Elizabeth Reed (Del Mar, CA).
