John was one of my best friends, even though he was a Yale grad!  We always sent a sympathy card to whichever of our Yale and Princeton teams lost in football each year .... and kept a close eye as well on the "best college" scholastic rankings  as well (even though we both knew how invalid they could be from a methodologial perspective)! John was also  Navy blue and gold through and through, though never served on active duty.  He knew his ships as they embarked on or returned home from deployment,  guided through the channel waters between Pt. Loma and North Island. Betty was always gracious at his side as well.  What a lovely "crows nest" they had overlooking the San Diego Yacht Club! RIP good friend! Paul D. Nelson, Captain, MSC, USN (ret) 

I just was thinking of John, and I was told Betty passed a few years ago.  Now I learn John passed more recently. 

I grew up three doors up from the Plag’s . John had a great sense of humor and would talk for hours . Helped one of the boys stack newspapers in the garage , walk Travis and so on.  Later on ,sold the home on Harbor View for them , when they transitioned to La Costa Glenn . So happy Betty was starting to enjoy herself , because she was very resistant of the move. 

RIP John and Betty , always will have a lot of good memories.
