Joe passed away peacefully surrounded by Ligia, his beloved wife of 47 years, and other family members. He fought a courageous battle against aggressive cancer.
Joe was born in Pico, Azores, where is he survived by his Sister, Fernanda, nieces and nephews. He came here to San Diego when he was in his early twenties and entered the commercial tuna industry. He fished on the Endeavor, Normandy and Alfeca, among other boats. To the very end, he was interested in the fishing industry. He was always held in high esteem by family and friends.
The Funeral Mass will be held Monday, June 11th at 9:30AM at St. Agnes Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103.
