At the age of 97 , in the dawns early morning of Feb, 27, 2018, Kit took her final breath of earthly air
and was welcomed home into her eternal heavenly life. She was finally home with her beloved husband, Whitey, ( married for 64 years ) …..along with her many brothers and sisters who had passed before her. In the last 6 months , Kit could be heard saying “I’ve had a good life and I’m ready to go and now a new journey has begun for her. She exemplified a life well lived, enriching the lives of all who knew her and expressing gratitude for all of the blessings this life offered to her. Her legacy is that she never realized the profound effect she had on others. She was a friend to all she met, leaving no one a stranger. Kit was one of those with a “bigger than life” personalities, with a sense of humor, wit and easy going way that people were naturally drawn to.
Coming from a strong Irish heritage, Kit was a great story teller, enjoyed a good joke and spent many an hour playing Canasta with family and friends. Laughter was a key ingredient in her life…she spread laughter wherever she went and was always ready for a party. She lit up the world around her and boy, could she make us laugh.
Kit was born in Long Island NY and the youngest of 10 children of the McKenna clan. She has many nieces and nephews that are still in New York which she always kept in contact and near to her heart.
Kit was blessed with four wonderful sons: Bob Schmersal (wife, Irma), Tom Schmersal , Mark Schmersal, and Jack Schmersal (wife Susan; 10 -grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Kit was definitely the Matriarch of the family. She was an amazing wife and mother and loyal friend to all who knew her. God and her family were most important to her. She was a lady of faith and was always ready to help others.
There will be a Celebration of Life to be held at Ascension Catholic Church , Thursday, Mar. 22, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. 11292 Clairmont Mesa Blvd. San Diego CA 92124
