Maria Esther Guerrero

Maria was known to everyone as Esther or Aunt Es.

Esther is survived by her two children, Leticia Guerrero-Mack, Andrew Guerrero; Son-In-Law, Antonio Mack; Brothers, David Leon and John Leon, Jr; Sister, Christine Gomez as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Spouse, Guadalupe Guerrero Jr; Parents Flavia and John Leon; & Brother, George Leon.

Esther was a native San Diegan, born on October 10, 1951. She attended Lincoln High School. She married her childhood sweetheart whom she was introduced to by her parents.

Esther enjoyed traveling adventures with her husband, listening to her music which included Rancheras, Cumbias, Banda, Boleros and Oldies. Family was important to her and all were welcomed with open arms. Everyone knew the Guerrero household was homebase for parties, BBQs and other special events.

Being a mother brought her so much joy, especially taking interest in her children’s school activities as a Soccer Mom, Spartanette Drill Team Advisor, and Martial Arts demonstrations.

She will always be remembered for her determination and strength as well as her love for cooking. You could not visit without her offering a plate of food even if you weren’t hungry. Conversations about food recipes and her dogs along with sharing pictures were her favorite pastimes. That motherly love extended to her family/friend scoldings and said it was done out of love. You always knew where you stood with her.

She was passionate and supportive as a loving wife and mother which carried into her dedication to her career. Esther worked as a Teachers Aid at Harborside Elementary in Chula Vista, CA before starting at Neighborhood House Association as a HUD Housing Counselor and worked for 26 years before retiring.

Esther has reunited with Jr and both can now rest in peace together.

A visitation for Maria will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Goodbody Mortuary, 5027 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92115. A funeral mass will occur Friday, July 11, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1770 Kearney Ave, San Diego, CA 92113. A graveside service will occur Friday, July 11, 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum, 4470 Hilltop Dr, San Diego, CA 92102.
