Marion Ruth Rainbolt

Our beloved mother, Marion, passed away on November 10 after a short illness. Marion was born in Spearville, Kansas to a family of eight children. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Journalism from Creighton University and her Master's degree in Education from Fort Hays State University.

While living in Dodge City she met Larry Rainbolt. She was charmed by him flying her to Wichita for dinner dates in his Cessna. They married and had two daughters. They were an adventurous family and spent 18 months living in Mexico (Cholula and Cuernavaca), then Austin, Texas before settling in San Diego.

Marion enjoyed her career as an elementary school teacher, retiring from St. Vincent de Paul School in Mission Hills. She then devoted time to activities including painting, egg decorating, and bowling at Kearny Mesa Bowl. Her Catholic faith was integral in her life and she was an active member of St. Therese Parish. Marion infused her family with a love of travel and was proud to have visited all seven continents.

She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Rainbolt (Roy Tobin) and Cynthia Rainbolt-West (David), two grandchildren, Carolyn West and Grant West and two sisters, Jane Steimel and Dianne Lawrence. Marion was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ivra Feist, brothers Jim Feist, Tom Feist and Jess Feist, sisters Betty Holloway, and Carole Wood, and her husband, Larry Rainbolt.

The Funeral Mass is on Saturday, November 20 at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Church, 6400 St. Therese Way, San Diego 92120. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charitable organization of your choice.
