1922….so The Twelve Days of Christmas was always a favorite
theme of hers. She was a Girl Scout and active in her church in
Tulsa. As a young adult she and some girlfriends would leave
work, formals in hand (changing on a bus) and travel to the
U.S.O. So they could dance with the men serving our country.
After a good friend lost his life, she and her friend Rose joined
the Navy. That brought her to SD where her friends kept trying
to set her up with Lieutenants at the 32nd St Base…. until she
met Jake, and informed the other Waves in the office “Hands
off he’s mine”. She was proud to have been in the Navy and
always very Patriotic. Mary loved to dance, also play the
piano, and Viola, was creative, and a very talented seamstress.
She was a PTA President, Girl Scout Leader, Cookie chairmen
and a Den Mother. Also active in Sons of Norway, and Ladies of
Valhall. Mary Loved her Husband,Children, Grandchildren and All her
Family and Friends…and leaves us with many memories.
Mary embraced Jakes Norwegian Heritage but always
Proud of her Irish-English heritage she loved this Irish Blessing.
