Michael John Scott, age 71, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 2, 2025. Born in San Diego on June 12, 1954, to parents John and Cornelia Scott, Mike was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
Known for his uncanny ability to strike up and carry on a conversation with just about anyone about anything for hours, he was most vocal about his love for building model boats and ships. From sailboats and tugboats to battleships and submarines, his exceptional skill and enthusiasm were undeniable.
His love for naval vessels, in particular, may have been sparked by his service in the U.S. Navy, which included the opportunity to DJ aboard his ship. This was followed by 34 years of dedicated Civil Service as a Project Manager at various naval bases in San Diego, including Miramar and North Island. Mike was admired as a great manager who always ensured his team felt supported and appreciated.
In addition to his career, Mike was an active member of his community, particularly in his home city of El Cajon. Whether driving a convertible in the Mother Goose Parade or filling in as the Cat in the Hat at an event at Balboa Park, he was a constant presence at local events. He could often be found with his loving wife of 50 years, Kim, singing karaoke or swapping stories with friends at the VFW or Elks Lodge.
His hobbies were as vibrant and varied as his personality: singing, visiting amusement parks, collecting model trains, planes, boats, guitars, and Invicta watches, and being an active member of the San Diego Ship Modelers Guild.
Michael Scott is survived by his wife, Kim Scott, and daughter, Kymberrly Scott, as well as his three sisters: Toreitha Heady, Carleen Brecheisen, and Deavonne Long.

A burial service will take place at Miramar National Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life reception concluding back at the Pacific Beach-La Jolla Chapel. Please feel free to wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt in his memory.
