

Patricia Ann Shanahan Fare, aged 84, died peacefully at home in Carlsbad, CA, surrounded by her daughters on August 21, 2016. Pat was born December 1, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Daniel J. and Lorraine A. (La Vigne) Shanahan.
In June 1959, Pat married the love of her life Lieutenant Commander Claude L. Fare in Oahu, Hawaii. Pat served as a dedicated military wife supporting her husband during his 32 years of active duty. Together, they raised three daughters: Jaime Fare, Laurie Fare and Leanne (Fare) Smith.
Pat’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her two grandsons – Grant Smith and Ryan Smith. She relished her personal time with her daughters, her grandchildren, her nieces and all of her extended family members. She was an avid reader who loved traveling, golf, wine tasting and sunsets on the beach.
Pat left this world with the grace and beauty that she bestowed all of the years she was here with us. She will always be remembered for the loving, caring and charming lady that she was. And, no matter where we are or what we are doing, her memories will always keep us smiling.
Pat is survived by her son-in-law, Dr. Kevin C. Smith, brothers, Dennis Shanahan and his wife Corinne and Terry Shanahan and his wife Kathy, her children and grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, her son-in-law Larry Collie, and her loving sister Mary Jane Shanahan-Koch.
