

Richard Selig, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Monday, January 29, 2018 in San Diego, California. He was born on June 24, 1932 in Appleton, Wisconsin, son of the late Fred and Carolyn Selig.
Richard had an honorable career with the United States Navy, giving service to our country for 27 years. Among his duties, he served aboard the USS Hoel, USS Kitty Hawk, and USS Midway. He enlisted at 20 years of age, and successfully worked his way up through the ranks, eventually retiring Senior Chief Gunners Mate.
As a civilian, he didn't stray far from the sea or service, going on to work another 20 years for Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), one of the largest of the Navy's five system commands.
Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years, Connie Selig, and 4 daughters, Rosie Gregorio, Mary Mazey, Rose Martini, and Carol Lowrey. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bea Dawson. Richard has 9 grandchildren, Pete, Alex, Anita, Crystal, Eddie, Khara, Travis, Holly and Dianna; 8 great grandchildren, Jasmine, Brandon, Leiah, Evan, AJ, Catalina, McKinnlee and Bristol; 1 great great grandchild, Kysiah. He is preceded in death by his siblings Fred, Vernon, Betty, Gene, Jack and Kenneth. Richard is survived by his beloved sister Marge Lausman.
Services will be held at 11am on Friday, February 23 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Burial will be at 2:15pm at Miramar National Cemetery with full military honors.
