Suzanne Spangler Dohren

October 7, 1948 – October 30, 2025

San Diego, CA

After living bravely and fighting courageously with cancer and declining heart health, Suzanne passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by love at the age of 77.

Suzanne, “Sue”, was born in York, PA on October 7, 1949 to Richard Malcolm and Dorcas Aurelia Spangler. At the young age of five, her family moved to Aurora, Illinois when her father was relocated for work. She went to grammar school through high school in Aurora. During her very active high school years, she met and began dating her future husband, David Dohren. They both graduated from the University of Illinois where Sue achieved the highest academic awards.

Soon after graduation and working in the Chicago area, David and Sue migrated to San Diego where they have resided in the Rancho Bernardo area for 50 years. Sue worked in the Art Department at Palomar College for several years before starting a family. She was very involved with her children’s school and extracurricular activities being a dedicated dance and sports mom.

Sue loved dabbling in arts & crafts, drinking wine while being with her many friends playing Mahjong or Bunko or discussing the latest book at her Book Club. She was very active with the Escondido Panhellenic Group and the local Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority Alumni Group. She enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit over 50 countries. Sue was also very fond of the many dogs that had been a part of her life.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Dorcas Spangler; her brother, Steven Malcolm Spangler; and infant daughter, Melissa Lynn Dohren. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, David John Dohren; her children, son Scott Richard Dohren, her daughter Rebecca Dohren Lipus; son-in-law, Garrett Lipus; and her wonderful grandchildren, Carter, Landon and Palmer Lipus.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance or to Elizabeth Hospice in memory of Suzanne Dohren.
