Ve Van Tran (Anh Ba)

After graduation, Ve Tran joined the Vietnam Republic military service for 15 years. He worked as a nurse and assisted doctors to care for wounded soldiers during the Vietnam War. After the fall of Saigon, he was imprisoned in reeducation camp for four years before escaping VN in 1979. Arrived in San Diego in 1980, Ve worked tirelessly doing odd jobs for two years while studying to become a car mechanic. For 30 years, he owned an auto repair shop on Euclid Ave, San Diego to support his immediate family and extended family in VN.

He belonged to one of the top Vietnam soccer team named Ngoi Sao Gia Dinh as a goalie in his twenties. After retirement at age 68, he reluctantly picked up tennis and fell in love with the sport. Thanks to his tennis buddies who cheered and encouraged him on and off the tennis court. He was still playing tennis at 82 years young!

His other favorite hangout was at Starbucks on Westview Pkwy where he met a group of friends to drink coffee, puff a cigarette and reminisce on the VN War, reeducation camp, American politics and everything else in between.

He was a very frugal man who saved his money to generously give away his savings to people and relatives in need, and most of all to all of his grandchildren for high school graduation gifts. He was not a religious man, but he lived his life religiously practicing honesty and generosity.

Ve Tran will be greatly missed by wife Tuyet Anh To; adult children and their spouses, respectively: oldest son Vu Tran and wife Dung Ha, older daughter Thao Tran and husband Hung Duong, daughter Yen Luc and husband Khiem Luc, and youngest son Chau Tran and wife Linh Truong. Ve’s love and generosity will always be remembered by his grandchildren (by order of seniority): Vi TranLe, Kevin Tran, Mindy Duong, Natalie Duong, Annie Luc, Andrew Luc, Bryan Tran and Mya Tran.

He is survived by his younger brothers and sisters as follows: brother Trần Văn Tư and wife Phan Yến (Sidney, Australia), sister Trần Thị Năm (Saigon, Vietnam), sister Thái Thị Sáu and husband Nguyễn Văn Nu (San Diego, California), brother Trần Văn Tám (Saigon, Vietnam), sister Trần Thị Chín and husband Nguyễn Kỳ Thống (Sidney, Australia), sister Thái Thi Mười and husband Nguyễn Văn Dậu (Saigon, Vietnam) and youngest brother Trần Văn Mười Hai (San Diego, California).

Today, we celebrate you, TRẦN VĂN VE. Thank you for being in our lives as husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend.

Ngưỡng bái bạch trên chư tôn thiền Đức, Quý tăng ni và Phật tử.

Kính thưa toàn thể quyến thuộc cùng thân hữu xa gần.

Hôm nay quý vị và chư tăng ni tại tổ đình thiền viện Trúc Lâm Đại Đăng, San Diego. Đến hộ niệm, cầu siêu, đưa tiễn nhục thân Ông Trần Văn Ve, pháp danh Chánh Khai Trí đã tạ thế ngày 30 tháng 6 năm 2023. Là chồng, anh, cha, và ông của chúng tôi. Ông đã hiện diện cõi đời này suốt 83 năm. Qua tuổi thơ học hành, trưởng thành Ông vào quân đội. 15 năm trong quân ngủ, là thời gian thăng trầm của đất nước Việt Nam.

Miền Nam thất thủ năm 1975, Ông đã bị cộng sản cầm tù bốn năm. Sau đó Ông cùng gia đình dẫn dắt các con thơ vượt biển rời khỏi Việt Nam.

43 năm trên nước Mỹ tự do này, Ông đã chăm chỉ làm việc để gầy dựng lại sự nghiệp và nuôi dạy các con Vũ, Thảo, Yến, và Châu nay đã thành nhân.

Kính thưa chư liệt vị:

Chúng tôi thiết nghĩ … Với tổ quốc Việt Nam Cộng hòa, Ông đã tròn bổn phận một quân nhân. Với gia đình suốt 64 năm chung sống Ông đã vẹn tình, trọn nghĩa phu thê. Với các con, ông đã làm tròn trách nhiệm của một người cha. Riêng đối với thân quyến, bằng hữu hiện diện nơi đây cũng như xa gần. Ông đã để lại bao niềm thương tiếc vô biên.

Hôm nay ngày hợp mặt để tưởng niệm và tiễn Ông Trần Văn Ve đi. Ông đã được chư tôn đức tăng ni và phật tử đến cầu kinh hộ niệm. Cùng Quyến thuộc và bạn hữu đưa tiễn. Sự ưu ái này gia đình chúng tôi vô cùng cảm kích.
