Vincenzo was born on 10/14/1929 in Ponza, Italy as the youngest child of twelve to Caterina and Gennaro Romano. He left Italy for Canada and married the love of his life, Antonietta, on 11/24/1956. They were happily married for 63 years. They had 3 children—Caterina, Giuseppe, and Silveria. The family immigrated to San Diego in search of warmer weather. They had found their home.
With the move to America, they all got nicknames: Vince, Toni, Cathy, Joe, and Silvia. Moreover, Vince opened Italian restaurant on Ray Street in 1967. He named it “Paesano,” which means friends in Italian. With the success of their business, Paesano became the lunch/dinner spot in North Park. Vince had the insight to purchase and build his restaurant on 3647 30th Street in 1972, where it flourished. Many parties, meetings, get-togethers, and memories were had at Paesano for more than 50 years.
Vince was loved by his family, friends, customers, and anyone who had the pleasure to meet him. He was a true “Paesano.” Vince loved to work hard, garden, sunbathe, and dance- he was the first and last one on the dance floor. He lived his life to its fullest.
Vincenzo is preceded in death by his father Gennaro, mother Caterina, and his 11 siblings. He is survived by his wife Antonietta, his children and their spouses (Caterina and Sabah, Giuseppe and Shelley, Silvia and Anthony), his 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
