William Merle Benedict passed away peacefully at his home in San Diego, California, Saturday, August 21, 2021. Bill was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 27, 1929 to Alvin L. Benedict and La Vera Theodosia Redmon.
He joined the United States Marines and at the age of 18 and served in the Korean War. He was the last Marine of the Inchon landing rotated home. Bill married his wife, Shirley Mae Kling (deceased), August 8, 1950. Bill and Shirley had three children, William Merle Benedict Jr. (deceased), Gaylene Yvonne Davis, and Karen Dee Benedict. Bill had 5 grandchildren, Mariah Benedict, Jamie Freeman, Lyndee Tanner, Roger Davis, and Charlene Johnson, and eight great grandchildren.
Bill moved from Kansas City, Missouri to San Diego, California in 1967. He retired from Solar Turbines as a Chief Manufacturing Engineer at the age of 70.
