Barbara Amberg

Born on June 6, 1952, in Washington, DC, she was preceded in death by her father, Robert Warren Amberg, mother, Catherine Galeano Amberg, and sister, Jean Amberg Sproull.

Barbara graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in English Literature and, soon after graduation, moved to California where she lived most of her adult life. She worked for a number of years as an Administrative Assistant at Crown Zellerbach before going back to school and receiving her Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of California at Berkley.

It was at this time she began her life's work as the Children's Librarian at the San Mateo County library in Pacifica, California, where she received numerous awards from the town and the state for her service to the young people of California. Barbara was an enthusiastic and active member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church in San Francisco and participated in many church events and trips and the liturgy. Her faith was undoubtedly her guiding light.

She is survived by her brothers Robert Warren Amberg, Jr. (Leslie Stilwell) of Marshall, NC, and Mark Louis Amberg (Marisa Dimonda) of Frederick, MD and brother-in-law, Charles Sproull of Springville, IN. Barbara is also survived by her longtime friend, Michael Morelli of San Francisco, CA, and nephews, Benjamin Amberg, David Sproull, Timothy Sproull and Stephen Sproull and nieces, Rebecca Romine, Sarah McCluskey, Samantha Amberg, Kate Amberg and Lily Amberg and numerous grand-nephews and nieces, and cousins.

There will be a Vigil of Prayer, Readings, Music and Eulogies on Friday, December 12, 2014 7pm followed by a Funeral Mass and Internment on Saturday, December 13, 2014 10am at St. Dominic's Catholic Church, 390 Bush St.(at Steiner St.), San Francisco, CA
