May 4, 1918 – March 6, 2015
Catherine Lucille Geary was a fourth-generation San Franciscan. Her home for all but 20 of her 96 years was in the City.
She was the only child of John J. and Lucille E. O'Connell Geary. Educated in San Francisco Catholic Schools, she graduated from Dominican College (now University) in San Rafael with a degree in education.
She met her husband at the Hibernia Bank where both worked and they attended an employee dinner-dance. On July 10, 1943, she and Charles were married. The young couple purchased a home in the Lakeside District of San Francisco where their children, Charles Jr. (Chuck) (wife, Rose) and later, son, John lived for 10 years.
For a brief 20 years the family lived on the Peninsula. During that time, at her insistence, Catherine and Charles and often, the "boys" socialized and dined in the City.
Catherine and Charles moved back to San Francisco, first to an apartment in Pacific Heights and later were among the first residents of San Francisco Towers, a retirement community. She continued living there after her husband's death in 1998, a total of 17 years.
Catherine enjoyed close friendships with her and Charles' families and many others. Many of these friendships continued though their lives and extended to friends' children and grandchildren.
Catherine served on the Dominican College Mother Mary Raymond Scholarship Fund Board and attended numerous alumni functions of the college. She was devoted, making a home for her family, preparing daily and holiday meals always efficiently to allow time to be with others during these occasions. She was a lifelong 49ers, San Francisco Seals Baseball and then S.F. Giants fan and travelled frequently throughout the world with Charles.
Catherine appreciated the dedication and service of the skilled nursing staff and especially her caregiver Curtissa, as well as the dining room and other staff at San Francisco Towers who all made it a very comfortable home.
