Daniel Lee Lewis, known to most as Dan and lovingly called Danny by his mother, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Dan moved to California in 1960 with his parents, Gordon and Myrtle (Weddle) Lewis, and his siblings. He eventually made Angels Camp his final home, where he built a rich and fulfilling chapter of life—one filled with love, adventure, and deep community ties.
Dan graduated from San José State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Finance. A proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, he carried the values of brotherhood and integrity throughout his life. He dedicated more than five decades to his career as a CPA, ultimately "retiring" as Chief Financial Officer of NeoLife. Ever hard-working, Dan continued to serve as a board member—a role he held with distinction, earning the respect and admiration of friends and colleagues around the world.
In August 2025, Dan and his beloved wife Elaine celebrated 50 years of marriage. Together, they lived and traveled across the globe for 20 years before finding their way back to the Bay Area - sharing a bond that was as enduring as it was inspiring. Dan found joy in playing golf, exploring new destinations, and spending time with friends—his laughter and warmth were constants in every gathering.
Dan was a devoted husband to Elaine (Hozack) Lewis, father to Lynnette Lewis and Robert Lewis, and a proud grandfather to James Finneas Graham. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathy (Lewis) Folck and Sarah (Lewis) Van Dyke, along with many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steven Lewis.
A private memorial will be held in Angels Camp to honor Dan’s remarkable life and the countless ways he touched the hearts of others.
Your presence in Dan's life was the greatest gift. A compassionate and generous soul, Dan gave back to his community through service. For those who wish to honor his memory, donations may be made W.A.V.E (wave4kids.org) and Mark Twain Medical Foundation, two organizations he supported generously with his time and energy.
