

David was originally from Chicago, Illinois and moved to West Hartford in his senior year of high School. David attended International American College. Upon finishing college he moved to San Francisco in the mid-sixties where his closest childhood friend had moved. He worked in the insurance business for his entire career. He was a dedicated employee and enjoyed his work.
David was known for his kind and generous nature, he was always helping his family, church and the greater community. He tirelessly volunteered at many San Francisco organizations. He was a deacon, elder, and on various boards at Calvary Presbyterian Church, He was on the board of 150 Parker school (a Richmond neighborhood preschool) where his children and grandchildren attended. He volunteered for more than 30 years at Stern Grove summer music festivals. He fed the homeless at Martin de Porres, picked up and dropped off excess food to be delivered to those in need with Food Runners. He loved and supported the arts, he frequented the Ballet and Symphony . He loved and donated to the Legion of Honor, De Young and SF MOMA museums and the San Francisco Symphony. David loved to travel both in the US and internationally. He loved trying San Francisco’s great restaurants and Napa and Sonoma’s world class wines, and always loved a good scotch and loved chocolate.
David was a devoted family man, always helping out with his grandchildren and children. He will be greatly missed by his children Lauren Machado and Andrew Behlmer. Their partners Ron Machado and Jennifer Behlmer, who he loved as his own children. and his grandchildren. Brooklyn, Quinn, Asa Machado , Bijou and Paloma Behlmer. The many organizations where he volunteered tirelessly will miss his help, dedication, and warm smile
There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, September 16th at 1:00pm at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 2515 Fillmore St.,San Francisco.
