Gang Jung married at the age of 16 and shortly after the wedding embarked on his journey to America. He returned to China for a brief visit in 1948, after being separated from his bride for 10 years. His first son was born later that year, but Gang did not get to meet him until 1952 when his wife Chun Kam joined him in San Francisco.
Gang worked at various jobs through his life, but is most remembered as a grocery store owner in the Mission District. He retired in 1987 and lived a happy life surrounded by his children and grandchildren. In 2009 he was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer but decided against aggressive treatment. He explained that he had exceeded his expectations, and had lived long than either of his parents. He was at peace with whatever God had planned for him. For this reason, he chose to be baptized a week before he passed away.
Gang is survived by his wife Chun Kam, son Norman, daughter-in-law Patricia, daughter Gayla, son-in-law Bob, granddaughters Jessica, Kimberly, Deanna and her husband Matthew, son Paul, daughter-in-law Tammy, granddaughters Adriana and Tanya.
