Gregory Allen McCowan

Gregory is the second of three children born to Joseph and Ernie Ruth McCowan. He was born at Mount Zion hospital in San Francisco California on June 25th, 1954.

Gregory was baptized at Bethel A.M.E. Church of San Francisco, CA. He attended Sunday school, his father was the Superintendent of the Sunday school. Gregory attended the Confirmation Class at age 12 in which he became a full member, learned the discipline of the church under Rev. J. Austell Hall.

He attended schools in San Francisco and continued his education at Laney College in Oakland, California for cosmetology.

Gregory’s employment history consists of several different jobs, he worked for years as a custodian for the City and County of San Francisco, later in his life he also completed, mentored and sponsored voluntarily at Project 90 in San Mateo, California and attended San Mateo College for mental health counseling.

Gregory was married to Karen Johnson-McCowan. They were married for 25 years prior to Karen passing in 2008.

Gregory is survived by five children: three sons, Jerail, Jesse, Jared, two daughters, Sherese and Jasimine. One brother Joe Arthur McCowan, a sister Ella (Eloise) Patterson, brother in-law Thurman Patterson Jr. and a son in-law DeMario William's Sr. One uncle, John Jones, one aunt, Verdie Brigham. He has seven grandchildren: four grandsons, DeMario Jr., De’Shaine, JayDynn, and Malik; three granddaughters, Tiara, Tamia and Tiana. There are three great-grandsons: Azaria, Milo and Marcelo. He leaves a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and countless friends.

Gregory was welcomed home by our heavenly father on Sunday, June 27, 2021 in which he departed life here on earth.

We will always love and cherish the memories of Gregory, a loving Father, Grandfather, Brother, Nephew and Friend.
