My world has been a much better place because Jon was in it. 

It's been two years already! Still remember you, and think of you often, and hope that all the old gang is having fun now, with the addition of Richard. RIP

Playing Scrabble with Jon -- we did it a lot, sometimes with another person also.  Both he and I liked to win.  It was competitive but fun.  I talked a bit too much sometimes, and that annoyed him a little, but we  joked and relaxed and enjoyed it, all the way through.  I  miss him.

Thinking of you, Jon (as we often do), on the first anniversary of your passing.  May you rest in peace eternally.

I miss our Scrabble games, shared meals, walks in the park, conversations, visits.  Having known Jon makes me want to be nicer to people, and to appreciate them more while they are here.

I just belatedly found out that Jonathan died-almost a year ago.  He was a pleasure to work with-diligent, enthusiastic always with a good word and a smile.  I worked with him on the Transbay Plan in the mid-1990s when he was a transportation planner in the Department.  He was patient about explaining the basics of transit - routing and timing and how important they are.  I worked with him when he was in code enforcement.  He managed to balance humanity with enforcement, which is very hard to do.

I'm so sorry.

We both arrived at the SF Planning Department in August 1991 and were assigned to Transportation Authority projects.  We learned the ins and out of city government at the same time-- you were a good friend--it was a pleasure knowing you and coordinating with you in the old Transportation Section.  
Thanks for your ongoing encouragement and good cheer later, whenever I'd see you at Planning.

As a former coworker, on the San Francisco Planning Department’s Code Enforcement Team, I remember Jonathan’s nice smile and quiet confidence. He will be/is sorely missed. Time to rest Jonathan. 

My favorite memories of Jon are from the late 80s & 90s in Seattle before he and Luiz moved away to New Jersey. We would get together for holiday meals and other things like the Pride Parade. One year, six of us spent Christmas in a small cabin right on the edge of the shore at Cannon Beach, OR. We drove there in a rented Lincoln Towncar sliding all over in the snow with Jon & Luiz in the back seat. Another time we 'camped' in a two story cabin on Harstine Island, WA on Puget Sound. A few years back I was able to reconnect with Jon and Luiz when they relocated to San Francisco. Jon and I lunched once at The Cliff House during a rough patch in his life. More recently, we spent an evening with Jon & Luiz (& their delightful dog) at their home in the city. Jon was kind enough to drive us over to their place from our hotel so we wouldn't have to navigate the MUNI. Years prior, when Jon & Luiz lived atop Twin Peaks (OMG, the view!) Luiz would make the most wonderful Cachaça & Lime drinks for all of us...which provided the courage to head down to Este Noche Latin Bar in the Mission District! I'll miss Jon for the rest of my days but feel so grateful to have known him as a friend. Rest in Peace Jon!

My memory is of playing Scrabble with Jon.  We did this a lot.  We were about equally matched, though he knew words from areas I was not familiar with, and I knew words from areas he was not familiar with.  We would put on smooth popular music in the background: Carmen MacRae or Mildred Bailey.  We were intense and relaxed, serious and laughing.  We'd have some wine and cheese and crackers.  It was a time we both enjoyed a great deal.

Jon was one of the nicest humans I have ever known.  I am missing him a lot and will continue to do so.  But he made my life better, and I know he did this for many others.    So I am sad but grateful and want to be nice to others, as a tribute to him.  He was an example, not a preacher -- and, for me, that worked well.

So many memories have come flashing back since I heard about your passing. I know that you remember them too. We even talked about our memories of ChicagoFest and the songs that we remember each other by. Our sincere condolences to Luis, Jon's family, and other loved ones.

Jonathan was a wonderful mentor and an extremely kind soul. I will miss his wonderful spirit and graceful intelligence. My deepest condolences to his loved ones. 

Jonathan was such a kind person. Working with him for many years was a pleasure. He’ll always be in my thoughts. 

Jonathan was not only a pleasure to work with but just a gentle sincere soul. He will be missed.
