Jeşua Urchison-Davis was a man of many words; most of which were sarcastic, rude, and not appropriate for children. He once admitted “I’m just snarky and have horrible social skills.” What he lacked in verbal compassion, he more than made up by being the most loving husband, best friend to many, supporting brother-in-law, and the coolest uncle a boy could ask for.
The son of Romanian father and Minnesota native mother, Jeşua was an advocate for welcoming all walks of life into his community. Many friends have spoken of his innate ability to make them feel proud to be gay, to be an outsider, to be labeled a freak, and to be their most authentic self. Jeşua spoke so effortlessly. He had a gift that made you realize you were in the presence of someone who truly understood you on every wave length. And if he didn’t care for the conversation, he would opt for a joke instead and his quick wit would make you appreciate the effort.
He grew up in Mountain View with his mother and moved to San Francisco as an adult. It was here that he met the love of his life, Zachary Urchison. Although San Francisco gave him the family he always dreamed of, anyone that knew Jeşua could argue that his soul belonged to Maui. Some of the best moments of his life were spent on this magical island with Zachary, exploring the jungles, lounging on the beach, and kayaking the open waters. Despite all the years on the island, he somehow never got a tan.
Jeşua had a great love for music and lived life to the beat of his own soundtrack. He expressed himself through the lyrics and found comfort in the rhythms. He had a passion for languages, often self-taught with great ease. He named his cat after esteemed serial murder, Jeffrey Dahmer. His favorite color was plaid. He played video games daily, often beating levels on his commute to work. He enjoyed playing Magic the Gathering, despite the pleas of his closest friends begging him to stop.
Jeşua Davis Urchison unexpectedly passed away on June 29, 2017. He leaves behind his husband (Zachary Urchison), his loving mother (Lisa Lewis), devoted sisters-in-law (Patricia Zapien, Angela White, and Jennifer Zapien), supportive brother-in-law (Dustin Ball), and nephews that he meant everything to him (Michael Meyers and Stefan Barbosa), and countless friends he considered family.
An eternity with Jeşua Urchison-Davis would never be enough time for everyone that loved him. To know Josh was to love Josh.
Celebration of Life will be held on July 16, 2017 at 2pm at Lindley Meadow in Golden Gate Park 1054 John F. Kennedy Dr. San Francisco, CA
