Lai Kuen Woo, a long time resident of San Francisco’s Chinatown passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 13,2021. She was 94 years old.
Lai arrived in San Francisco in 1948 with her beloved husband Ho Tuck (Tommy) Woo to begin their married life. Lai became a jewel-like fixture in the Chinatown community due to her talent as a seamstress and to her personality that was equal parts of generosity, kindness and empathy to everyone who knew her. She loved telling stories and spreading joy to anyone listening. Her sense of humor, mischief and kindness will be missed family and friends.
Lai was a loving mother to daughter Dulcinea (Cina); a grateful mother-in-law to Bruce Perez; and devoted popo to Andrea (Andi) Perez. Loving Sister to Sum Kuen, and Lai’s brothers Shuck Gee (Lai Heung), Shuck Nung (Lin Yap) and Shuck Foo; and an Auntie to 3 nieces, 6 nephews.
Due to Covid restrictions, indoor services will be private. Internment at Hoy Sun Ning Yung cemetery, Colma will be announced at a later date.
