May 26, 1926 - April 19, 2015
Margaret passed away peacefully on Sunday April 19th at the age of 88 after a short illness.
Originally born in San Francisco to Italian parents, Margaret moved to Italy as a young child where she grew up and eventually met the love of her life and husband of 59 years, Benny. The two moved back to San Francisco in 1949 and established themselves in the restaurant and fine grocer business. Margaret spent over 40 years working at notable San Francisco institutions including Grant Market, Petrini's and Gallo Salami factory.
A devout Catholic, loving mother and loyal friend, Margaret enjoyed entertaining and was an incredible cook. In fact, Benny and Margaret were known among their friends for throwing great dinner parties that usually resulted in singing accompanied by accordions.
Margaret will be missed by her family and the many lifelong friends who loved her dearly. She is survived by her two children, Liliana DeMello (Craig) and Marco Candela (Shiloh); older sister back home in Italy, Eni Faccia; granddaughters Laura Miner (Bill) and Julie Channing (Nate); and great grandchildren Taylor, Cole and Rylie.
Friends are welcome for visitation from 4PM-8PM with Vigil Service at 7PM, Thursday at HALSTED N. GRAY – CAREW & ENGLISH, 1123 Sutter Street, SF. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, 10:30AM at SS Peter & Paul Church, 666 Filbert Street, SF. Entombment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Margaret's name to the Salesian Boys' and Girls' Club.
